On August 23rd, I had the absolute joy of photographing one of the kindest, warmest couples I’ve ever worked with. From the moment I arrived, the bride, bridal party, and guests made me feel like I’d been adopted into the family. You know those weddings where everyone is smiling, hugging, and passing out compliments like confetti? That was this day.
But every great story needs a little plot twist, right?
Well… ours came in the form of another photographer who had also been hired for the wedding. And let’s just say he was less than thrilled to discover I existed.
Imagine a human shield. Now imagine that human shield with a camera, a scowl, and the determination of someone guarding the last slice of wedding cake. That was him. Every time I tried to get a shot, he’d swoop in like a disgruntled mall cop, planting himself directly in front of my lens. I spent the day doing a graceful little sidestep dance — part ninja, part ballerina, part “please‑sir‑I‑just‑need-one-photo.”
And the attitude? Whew. He was bossy, snappy, and somehow managed to be rude to the bridal party, guests, and even the bride and groom. I didn’t know photographers like that actually existed outside of sitcoms. I always thought the stereotype was exaggerated… until August 23rd proved me wrong.
But here’s the thing:
The couple still had a beautiful day.
The guests still laughed and celebrated.
And kindness still won.
This wedding reminded me why I approach my work the way I do. I’ve photographed so many couples who told me they were anxious, camera‑shy, or worried they’d look awkward — and by the end of the day, they were relaxed, laughing, and posing like naturals. Not because of the camera, but because of the experience. Because being kind, patient, and human matters just as much as knowing how to use a lens.
Seeing the opposite approach in action was… educational, to say the least. It reinforced something I’ve always believed:
✨ Good customer service isn’t optional.
Kindness isn’t optional.
And no wedding vendor should ever be the reason a couple feels stressed on their big day. ✨
Despite the unexpected “guest star” in our wedding adventure, the images turned out gorgeous, the couple glowed, and the love in the room was impossible to overshadow — even by a human shield with a camera.
And honestly? I walked away with a great story, a renewed appreciation for the couples who trust me, and a reminder that being a decent human is the best business strategy there is.
